Eclipse Code mining: Line jumping flickering with Copilot installed although completion is disabled

It seems Copilot plugin is causing a repaint on every key-stroke even though Copilot completions are turned of. This results in jumping lines / flickering when Code Mining (e.g. method references) are enabled.

Not sure this is known but I noticed it today in new Eclipse 2025-12. Maybe it has been there before in 2025-09 too, but I don't know.

... here is a video of my current Eclipse where I see the flickering / jumping.
Notice that where I type the numbers, every keypress causes re-rendering.

I have Copilot plugin installed (a suspicion, because on another 2025-12 instance, I don't have Copilot and I don't see this effect)

BUT copilot completions are currently disabled.

So I guess it is Copilot.

But maybe it helps others or you could tell the Copilot team about this.

Update: What I can't remember is if how exactly it behaved with 2025-09. It was just today that I found it very annoying so that I took the effort to google for the problem and found this issue.

Thank you. I can reproduce the issue. The root cause is that the current implementation will always call uodateCodeMinings() when text changes. No matter if the completion is enabled/disabled.

We might need to do some refactor to dispose all the completion managers when the setting is turned of.

It looks like the Eclipse team has a proposed fix for this issue:

• Fix UI flickering in code mining by adding wait/notify reconciliation coordination eclipse-jdt/eclipse.jdt.ui#2698
• CodeMining: reuse existing inlined annotations when minings are unchanged eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform.ui#3580

Right now, I have to have Code Minings turned on for Copilot to do inline completions, but I have to turn off all the useful information Code Mining can provide because of the flickering caused by Copilot refreshing the Minings on every keystroke. I am looking forward to the day when this makes it into a release and I can use both Code Minings displayed information and Copilot at the same time.
