Camera failing after update to Ubuntu 6.18.2-surface-1 / v4l2loopback-dkms package outdated

I have a HP Envy X360 notebook and run linux surface.
The integrated camera "worked" in the Ubuntu camera app (but not in Teams or Zoom or other apps).

After updating from Ubuntu 6.17.1-surface-2 to 6.18.2-surface-1 the Ubuntu Camera app fails too.
Indeed I was hoping the upgrade will repair the Camera and make it available in all other apps, but instead it got worse.
The Ubuntu camera app does not show a camera/video picture as it did before, but makes the screen dark after a few seconds and Ubuntu reboots then.
I assume this has to do with the IPU6 drivers - which was reported as issue with the HP Envy.

NOTE: during the upgrade a failure with v4l2loopback happened (I am not really sure what this is for, but assume this may not have caused the camera error). Thread is here #1949

I am not sure about all the stuff with IPU6 or loopback and so on and hope somebody can help / point to how this can be solved. I noticed there is an updated 6.18.3-surface published a few hours back, but this does not install via sudo apt upgrade so far. Probably this solves the issues then.

I hope the camera issue can be solved once and for all (after 1.5 years) and that the camera will be working and available to all Ubuntu apps.

AFAIK v4l2loopback is still required to make the cameras accessible in apps other than qcam. And unfortunately, that failing is yet another instance of Ubuntu/Debian packages being too outdated for newer kernels. Please try updating v4l2loopback from upstream and see if that helps.

Thanks qzed, i can report on the camera status once the v4l2loopback-dkms package is updated and can be installed via sudo apt. compiling and updating the v4l2loopback failed (most likely as i am too much of a freshmate), so i need to wait for an updated package via apt update. At present the official package contains the v15.0 sources, and the bug is said to be removed from the current v15.3 sources ....
Any idea how an updated v4lsloopback-dkms package can be found?
