Use base-orphans to have fewer conditional instances?

I am doing that in https://github.com/reflex-frp/patch/pull/24/files to make the  `:*:` and `:.:` instance unconditional. Might it be worth it here? (Real question, I cannot decide if base-orphans type stuff is worth it for either package.)
