start backup button does not work

I am running windows 10, with file locking and Popen issues fixed, however after initializing a repository, the start backup button appears to  initializes the thread, it does not appear to run the thread to commence backup. It appears to work fine in linux, so must be something peculiar in how it processes threads in windows. It does not throw any exceptions; just hangs.
