git fails to save a snapshot

For time to time, I've got the error message:

18:31:17  git s'est terminé avec un code d'erreur.
commit -m ray

So, I dug into the Ray Session directory. I saw a commit nearly ready so I tried a "git commit -m "ray"":

[... .ray-snapshots] $ git commit -m "ray"
fatal : cannot lock ref 'HEAD': Impossible de créer '/home/collette/Ray Sessions/NonMixerXT/.ray-snapshots/HEAD.lock' : Le fichier existe.

Il semble qu'un autre processus git est déjà lancé dans ce dépôt,
par exemple un éditeur ouvert par 'git commit'. Veuillez vous assurer
que tous les processus sont terminés et réessayez. Si l'échec persiste,
un processus git peut avoir planté :
supprimez le fichier manuellement pour poursuivre.

I removed the file and tried again "git commit -m "ray"":

I removed this file and then the problem disappeared.

Maybe checking for the existence of such files if a problem occurs while saving a snapshot should be a good idea ...

It is interesting indeed, I have a such error for time to time too. What surprises me is that you can use git in the .ray-snapshots directory without specifying a git dir.

It would be nice to verify what are the possible error codes for a git commit (RS should notify this code in the message), and identify the code(s) where the problem can be solved removing this file.

The Ray\ Sessions/NonMixerXT/.ray-snapshots/ directory is a bare git repo, but you still can perform standard git operations on it. There is just no working copy ...
