Use observers instead of timers for unchecking and hiding elements

Timers are unreliable, slow down the script, and make unwanted elements to appear in a glimpse before disappearing.

Using observers would fix these issues.

This would be a really great enhancement. I see the script hasn't been updated in almost a year. Is development still active?
