Feature description
A recent change to the Phone app has been made to directly dial a contact when you tap their entry, moving the original functionality of opening up their info to tapping on their profile picture. Considering this is a pretty minor change from a developer's standpoint and a major change from a end user's standpoint, it seems prudent to me to allow the user to choose what happens when either of these two events occur.
I propose putting the choice back into the hands of the user and adding the ability to define what happens when the contact is tapped in both instances. The original feature request that proposed a change to the UX stated that the Contacts app already has the ability to choose what happens when you tap on a contact:
- Call Contact
- View Contact Details
- Edit Contact
It should be a relatively trivial matter to include this functionality to the Phone app as well.
Why do you want this feature?
An action that used to work one way and now works another way feels like you're taking choices away from the user, even if you're improving the functionality. The option to change what tapping each zone does will satisfy all parties involved.
